罗马尼亚财政部长周四宣布辞职
Romania's National Liberal Party (PNL) leader Crin Antonescu announced late Thursday that just resigned Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Daniel Chitoiu will be interim secretary-general of the party, to be involved in the electoral campaign.
"Daniel Chitoiu carried out a work which had permanent support from myself and PNL," he said, adding that Chitoiu "decided to terminate his experience and activity as head of the Ministry of Finance and government leader...e will assume - that's what I am going to propose tomorrow - the position of interim secretary-general, to coordinate the organization efforts of the party this year."
Chitoiu, 47, announced earlier he resigned his post as Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister in the coalition government, in order to devote himself to the activity of the National Liberal Party (PNL) in an electoral year.
"I've decided to get more actively involved in the PNL activity, by taking up the party General Secretariat as an interim, given there are two very important elections this year: the Euro-parliamentary elections and the presidential elections," he told a press conference.
"I am an old party man, I am co-working with all my fellows in the party leadership very well, as well as with all the National Liberal Party organizations and that is why I've decided to take up this position," he added.
Chitoiu stressed there are no other reasons why he is stepping down from government.
Yet, Liberal sources told media earlier that Chitoiu's departure from the coalition cabinet is almost certain, as he has a minimum support from his party and his possible remaining in the cabinet would due exclusively to appreciation from Prime Minister Victor Ponta, leader of Social Democrat Party.
According to the sources, senior PNL members were extremely dissatisfied with Chitoiu, as he did not fully communicate the party on issues such as the bank debts rescheduling for low-income borrowers, a typical social democratic policy.
