.肯尼亚重大交通事故已造成6人死亡
At least six people were killed and 31 others injured in a grisly road accident involving two buses belonging to the same company in western Kenya on Wednesday.
Traffic police commandant Samuel Kimaru said the incident occurred at around 4 p.m. local time at Keroka along the Kisii- Kericho highway.
Kimaru said the two buses christened Nyamira Express were heading in the opposition directions with one to the capital Nairobi from Kisii.
"I can confirm six deaths and 31 injuries. Among the dead are one female and four males including the driver of the bus that was headed to Nairobi," Kimaru told Xinhua by telephone.
"The bus that was from Nairobi had greater impact and five of the passengers that were in the bus died while the driver that was headed to Nairobi died in another bus, briefing the death toll to six," he said.
He said the police have launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the accident , adding that they believe it was due to over speeding and failing to size the two buses properly on the road.
The injured passengers were rushed to Keroka district hospital and Kisii level five hospital where they are receiving treatment. At least 10 of the passengers have been treated and discharged, the police officer said.
Analysts say the accidents have been on the rise in Kenya this year. In many cases, police blamed drivers for violating traffic rules.
