　　很多时候，“在汉语上下功夫”才是中英文互译的突破口。要译好“善后”，得首要理解“善后”的含义——灾变丧乱后，妥善处理遗留问题。单词 aftermath指“the result following a bad event such as an accident o'r war”（由事故或战争而导致的结果），很确切地表达了汉语“余秧，余波”的内涵。

　　由此，“善后” 的相应英文表达就是“to properly handle the aftermath of the accident”。新闻中，由上下文，accident可用incident（空袭这一事件）来代替。另外，handle和deal with做“处理”时也可互换。
