以上译文中斜体部分均搭配不当,略推敲一下,
就会发现其背后的汉语搭配模式。
当某一汉语短语有不同的
英语对应表达时,学生也易受原文影响,只着眼其搭配模式,而忽视
英语近义词搭配的区别,例如:
(7) 经过建国以来的建设,特别是改革开放以来的快速发展,我国已经有了比较雄厚的物质技术基础。
学生将“雄厚的??基础”译为:a strong ?basis ,
abundant ?foundation , abundant ?bases , solid ?base等。“ abundant , strong , solid”均可表达“雄厚的”,
“base , basis , foundation”都有“基础”的意思,但这并不表示它们能随意组合。“雄厚的??基础”可译为a solid foundation , 或a firm basis。
有的套用原文短语的译文还会产生歧义,如例(7) 句中的动宾短语“建国”就不可译为the foundingof China/ our country 或China/ our country wasfounded 。“建国”本身就不是一个严谨的词语,但大家都明白它指的是1949 年中华人民共和国的成立,
而与其字面对等的这些英文翻译却不能表达这样的含义,应该译为the founding of People’s Republic ofChina 或People’s Republic of China was founded。
